The gammar ray flare explosion was from the neutron star 50,000 light years away. Imagine it, what we observed today actually took place 50,000 years ago, long before the existence of human. The gammay ray travelled at the speed of 3x10^8 m/s for 50,000 years to reach us. The observed raditation level tops any record. Power follows the inverse square law. If the explosion happened 10 light years away from the solar system, it would be the end of the world in the split of a second. No pain, no tears, as nobody could excape from the explosion that actually took place 10 years ago. No matter how intelligent we claimed to be, there is nothing we could do to help ourself.
